(More customer reviews)The clamp is designed to hold itself to a work surface, not to hold two things together. It does okay at this, although the clamping jaws are small enough that you can get it a few degrees out of alignment either way.
Unfortunately Amazon ships this in the original box, which is held together at both ends with scotch tape. By the time thew shipper is done with it both ends have become opened and it looks rather the worse for wear. Of course Amazon's return policy will get you sent a replacement, which will have the same problem. Then you will get the oxymoronic (pun intended) statement "This doesn't usually happen. Since it is likely that a replacement will have the same problem, we won't trouble you with another order". If this sounds like a fun use of your time, then go for it.
