(More customer reviews)First off you need to know that this "cutter only" bit needs a screw on arbor (part # HMA-1/2A) The arbor should last for years even in an everyday industrial environment. So it isn't a major factor in your price/value figuring. Now for the cutter it's self. These are very high quality bits. We use them every day cutting solid hardwoods including hickory. We also cut composite panels and ply-woods. We began using the Whiteside brand several years ago because the price was better. We immediately noticed a lower rate of carbide failure and bit fracture. I don't resharpen them. I know that out previous supplier offered resharpening on the other brand, but we feel we are getting good value with these without sharpening.
If you plan on putting a lot of miles on your mortising bit these are real champs. They maintain their edge quite well, and they won't let you down.
